China Mobile to Join Vodafone-Verizon LTE Trials
February 15, 2008
Chinese mobile operator China Mobile announced on February 14 that it plans to participate in the ongoing LTE (Long Term Evolution) trial runs held by Vodafone and Verizon Wireless, a joint venture formed by UK-based Vodafone and US-based Verizon Communications. The LTE trials are projected to take the current 3G technologies through 3.9G, paving the way for the development of 4G mobile standard.

According to Sina Tech News, the trials are expected to focus mainly on the development of the LTE FDD (Frequency Division Duplex version of LTE) and the TD-LTE (Time Division Duplex version of LTE) technologies in a bid to establish a common platform, ensuring greater interoperability among the three telecoms' existing mobile phone networks and other peer networks.
